(Anonymous) 2020-05-24 02:18 am (UTC)(link)Just because some people would prefer to spend the extra ten thousand dollars a year or so to live on campus, and can afford to do so, doesn't mean that's true of everyone, and by forcing them to live on campus these post-sec institutions are forcing said students to go tens of thousands of dollars deeper into unnecessary debt.
Did you actually read the comment you replied to? Because it seems like you didn't. If you had you'd know that my objection was not to students having the option to live on campus. My objection is to the fact that first year and often second year students are not given the option NOT to. I'm not even sure how I could possibly need to explain to you why that's a bad thing. Like, how could you be so blind as to not grasp the sheer injustice of saying, "Sorry poor kids; we know you could live with your parents for free but well, post-secondary is a business in this country, and allowing you to do so would greatly cut into our profit margins, so we're going to gouge the shit out of you for on-campus residency instead."
The parasitic toxicity of it is honestly stunning.
Re: Question for Americans
(Anonymous) 2020-05-24 02:40 am (UTC)(link)I was poor and went into 30,000 of debt and lived in dorms. I don't like being judged for it, particularly since the semester I lived off campus I had to overdraw my bank account living in hotels after my housemate got evicted.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-24 02:53 am (UTC)(link)I hope someday someone accuses you of missing the point when you in fact did nothing of the sort. Then you'll realize how rude it is.
