HSM2 was great. I like HSM3 for a lot of things -- although it didn't flow as well as the others, the song/dance sequences were amazing (hello, "I Want It All!" and oh, "The Boys Are Back") -- but yeah, I think HSM2 was better overall.

HSM is totally and utterly ridiculous... and I may sorta love it because of that.

And I just gotta say, it wasn't that HSM3 didn't flow as well, it just didn't flow at all, IMHO. Yea, the sequences were amazing (and now the songs are stuck in my head... again), no doubt about that, but the plot was the weakest part of the movie. And the fact that the whole movie centered around Troyella 99% of the time (compared to HSM2 when it was Troyella 55% of the time, Interesting Minor Characters 40% and Troy dancing like a spaz 5%) didn't help its cause.

...and I cannot stop laughing at Sharpay's expression in your icon.

Yeah, I genuinely like Troy and Gabriella and think they're cute, but I really enjoyed how much we saw of the more minor characters, those characters interacting with each other and Gabriella, etc. HSM3's plot seemed really... I don't know, disjointed to me. It just didn't go well together. I still enjoyed it, but the plot could have been handled better.

I don't know about everyone else, but speaking as an adult who loves HSM and appreciates the cheese, I agree -- think HSM2 was my favorite. I loved the first because it was new and introduced all the characters, and HSM3 had amazing sequences, but HSM2 really had a little of everything.

Speaking of the cheese, I think that's another reason why HSM3 wasn't as good as the others, aside from the plot failure; from where I was watching, it seemed like they were trying to make the movie less of a cheesy cheesy guilty pleasure and more srs bsns. And I ask you, who enjoys the movies because they're srs bsns?

Agreed that the second movie had a bit of everything; a decent if ridiculous plot, dorky songs, dances that aren't half bad, a cute amount of Troyella, more participation from minor characters, gay subtext...

I don't think HSM3 was entirely srs bsnss (Chad in the clown costume! Prank on Rocketman and the other kid!) but it was certainly missing a lot of the total cheese factor the first two had, which is why I loved them! And of course for the gay subtext (although HSM3 had some of that -- "You're easier to dance with than her," etc -- but nowhere near "I Don't Dance" and the Great Outfit Switcharoo).
