Aside from all that - this isn't a political thing. It's...just for fun. I honestly don't think that everything has to be taken so seriously.

They did and they still do (a major political figure apologizes like, every year or so), but it's really, really hard for Asian people to take those apologies at face value when the Japanese say they're sorry and then do things like keep up a really scary shrine honoring Class A war criminals and glorifying their disturbingly skewed version of history (for example, this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Slanted.jpg)—oh, poor Japan, baaaaaaaaaw, it's all white America's fault, bawww, they MADE us invade Korea and rape and pillage China because we don't have any RESOURCES whine whine whine). They do stuff like that a lot, and their behavior is not making things any better.
I agree with you, though, not everything has to be taken so seriously. If you're not close to the events of the war and its aftermath and you can enjoy Hetalia, I say enjoy it.

I...I still get emotional about the war, I get really upset when I research it, or think about what happened, particularly because I am of predominantly German descent, but...not everything has to be serious all the time. Thank you for that, though, it's nice to see my thoughts reflected in a more well-executed sentence.
