139. Oh for God's sake. I'm majoring in U.S. History and Modern European studies, and I still enjoy Hetalia. Not for the slash... I actually detest yaoi, and I'm not a huge fan of pretty boys. And not because I think war is a riot. Quite the opposite; military history is one of my major focuses, and I'm frequently involved with veterans. I assure that it's not because I get my kicks from laughing at war or trivializing it.

Either way, I think it's a funny little Japanese series. It's not meant to be a serious commentary on the horrors of war; hell, it's not meant to be a humorous commentary on the horrors of war. It rarely--honestly, I don't think ever--has made light of the suffering of any nations. Fans have done it, but the series itself? Not so much. Regardless, the cute characters have helped me along in my own studies.

It's far from being politically correct, of course, and it's a series based on a twisted subject matter, but I call the shots like I see them. You can have your own opinion, but 'being a history major' is hardly any logical reason for someone other than you not to enjoy parts of it. If anything, history majors are probably better suited to the series than average joes, since they can easily tell whether or not the events shown have bias, are historically accurate, ad nauseum. There are plenty of stupid, drooling fangirls who get a kick out of shipping two hot 'countries' together without really analyzing the historical values, but don't mistakenly believe that every person who enjoys the series to some extent fits that profile.
