I used to want to be a BNF in my fandom (mainly 'cause all the BNFs in my fandom get cool free stuff), but then I became friends with a BNF and learned what it was like for her. She feels so much pressure to outdo her previous posts, so she spends hours and hours setting things up and editing her photos. She feels like she can't say anything bad about the free stuff she's getting, even if it's shitty quality, because it would jeopardize her relationship with the brand. She did a contest for something small and got a ton of butt-hurt people sending her hate mail because they didn't win. She's gotten accused of being racist, sexist, and homophobic for seemingly innocuous pictures. It's honestly bonkers to me.
