i think the issue the other anon is talking about is when the writers of a fic are clearly unaware that they've written this power dynamic into a ship, they think it's fine and romantic but one half is pushy and emotionally manipulative and basically has to coerce their LI into a relationship/sex. which is all kinds of Yikes when being presented as normal or desirable? especially if the canon-character isn't like that as well.

but if it's canon that a character is like that then that's different, i already know A is likely to manipulate someone because they're like that in canon, or if a ship between A/B is super fucked in the canon i won't be put off or surprised if the fic is also depicting that relationship as fucked yanno?
