Re: How much do you hate when you see a great fic...

This. And I'm okay with reading writing that's not the best quality. There's plenty of fics I've greatly enjoyed that's clearly written by younger and/or beginner writers (sometimes I've enjoyed fics like this more so than some of the ones written by very experienced writers to be honest) but there's just...some things you can't overlook.

Overuse of "the" is one thing I've noticed recently. "The girl looked over at the moon from the balcony on the mansion on the mountain and the breeze and the..."

Also overuse of epithets is another. Though I'll give that they can be useful especially if you want to introduce new details about a character the readers don't know yet. "X looked at the taller man" could possibly be more organic than an info dump because it let's us know Y character is taller than X and doesn't really interrupt anything else going on. But in general epithets and using "the" even when you don't need to or should word things differently is something I've noticed plaguing the tags.

Also...no I don't care if it's a "stylistic" choice capitalize things at the beginning of sentences.

Also we ALREADY HAVE QUOTATION MARKS FOR DIALOGUE. If you use something else you are my natural born enemy. -This is not quotations- and anything you got from unicode isn't either. I SWEAR. Some people I know have to copy and paste those special looking symbols/quotations why would you go out of your way to do that when 1. there's quotations on the keyboard right there 2. it looks clunky and interrupts my reading because my eyes constantly pick them out as not belonging.
