105- The pain is not super bad. If you wanna wait a year and come to Denver I'l...pretend to be bob...XD

129- I agree with some of what you're saying, but it is also entirely possible to deal with both.

143- I can't stand artist who can't appreciate someone liking their art without jumping through hoops.

158- Shit yeah. I'm smaller then 48 and I would never be called slender (And also, a 48 DD wouldn't have all that huge boob in comparison to her body.)

165- I think it made him far more interesting. And I also think it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out he wasn't being a giant doofball, he was pulling strings. Subtext ftw. Then again, Deidara is just an epic ball of fail all around. He's a pretentious art tool with ninja training

This.

The argument that people should ask fanartists but don't have to ask actual paid artists/mangaka/animators/etc BECAUSE it's just a labor of love and they don't get paid for it seems completely backwards to me, too. If it's a labor of love for you, and someone else loves it enough to want to hold onto it, and is showing it to other people who would likely have never heard of you or seen your art otherwise... why is that a bad thing, suddenly? There's no theft there, whereas arguably (stupid-arguably, but still) someone who's making money off the art having their art spread around for free could be said to be "stolen" from much more easily.

EXACTLY.

I lose respect for any artist who get their panties in a twist from their art being SHARED and ENJOYED.

Yes, if someone is using it for profit, or claiming it as their own, that's another issues, but using it in a harmless way because they love it? Grow up. It totally makes my DAY when I find out someone liked my picture enough to not only save it, but share or take the effort to make it into something they can use like an icon or such.

And that doesn't even cover the fact that yeah, why are icon makers and fanartist the only ones who get credit? What about the Photographer? The animator? Hell, the director?

It's like -- I can understand people saying "please credit this if you use it!" if they put time and effort into it. Hell, if they say that, it'd be a good thing to do it -- no matter who it is. Hell, if a manga came out that said in it "if you reproduce/scan/icon/banner/whatever the art in this book anywhere, please credit the name of the series and the creator!" I would try to do so, because they asked nicely, and it's not that hard.

That said, for icon making, I tend towards "commenting not necessary but nice! please credit" only so I get the warm tinglies from finding out that people enjoy my icons enough to use them (thus, commenting), and so that anyone who happens to see the icon and likes it can easily find the rest of my icons in case they want anymore (hence crediting -- I go D: when I look on people's icon pages and icons aren't credited, because I want to swipe them with source sometimes and look for more -- and that's also why I prefer to link to the original fanart source when I can which is sadly not often given that I get most fanart from friends' computers).

An artist getting upset by their art being iconned really just boggles me, because nothing is being taken from them, and it's a great form of free advertisement -- like I said, especially if credited, it'd mean that more people are seeing and perhaps really liking your art who might never have stumbled across it by themselves. Usually, if someone wants comment or credit I have no problems with it (unless I'm in a hurry and can't comment, or don't know the source to credit for fanart), but I have to admit I get uncomfortable with an artist who outright bans use of their art for icons. I most likely won't use their art if they go that far, but it also takes away a lot of my enjoyment, and I like looking at their art a bit less -- kind of like my distaste when I hear of an author/novelist proclaiming a ban on fanfiction and fanart of their stuff.

I TALK SO MUCH. SO, SO MUCH. XD;

IT'S OK I ENJOY YOUR TALKIN

And I agree 100%. I credit when I know to advertise for good icons to spread the word, and if someone's bitchy about it...eh. The whole thing is a sharing of happiness and fannishness, not an opportunity to be an asshole. Specially with fanart it's so...like...it's not ever YOUR characters,
