You! You wrote String and Chewing Gum! And then stopped in the middle of the story, on a bloody cliffhanger! I never really quite got over that. I've never been particularly critical of fanfic (certainly I never noticed anything wrong with that particular story, and still don't), and that one was fun to read, which is the whole point, so...

That story helped me get over the fact that my OTPs would not be the same as other people's, but that needn't stop me from enjoying their stuff (I shipped Dylan/Rommie and Trance/Harper). So thank you for that :-)

I was never really in the fandom - I didn't really know what fandom was at the time, I just liked the show and had one friend I talked about it with. I guess I got lucky in avoiding all that.

Oh, lol, someone still remembers that? Dude... if it's any comfort, I haven't attempted a multi-chapter since then, in ANY of the fandoms I've been part of. I was VERY aware of how many people I let down when I couldn't finish it - but unfortunately that was at the height of my love/hate relationship with the fandom itself, and the fandom was ruining my love of the show. In the end I dropped out and got into CSI instead because I couldn't stand all the wank going down on ExIsle at the time that the fifth series of Andromeda started airing. (Ironic, really, given the wank in CSI... but I wasn't to know that at the time XP). Still, I learned a lot about how NOT to write epic fic from that adventure (like, you know, planning how the eff you want to end it in advance).

ooh, I loved Trance/Harper! Harper was meant to be Khayos's real father, you know. *sigh* man, that was so long ago. And yeah, you definitely got lucky avoiding the brunt of the fandom. It was HELL of a deep end to be thrown into in terms of my first real online participation in a fandom.

Yeah, I remember it - I loved it! Hey, no worries though, it must take a huge amount of effort to write a fic that long, and it's not like I've ever finished any of the projects I've started for fun. And I can understand about fandom putting you off the show. Although if you had any ideas about where the fic was going - any at all - I wouldn't mind hearing them.

I've just re-read the last chapter, and yeah, back then I did know about Harper being Khayos's father, but I'd forgotten. I'm so glad you reminded me :-) Trance/Harper's my favourite pairing in Andromeda. That said, I still haven't seen most of seasons 4 and 5, and from what I've seen, Dylan/Trance seemed to be pushed on us quite a bit.
