I don't see what this has to do with you being old. Recap movies/episodes/OVAs have been around since forever.

Yeah, I remember plenty of recap movies. That was more the norm back when VCRs were rare/weren't a thing. OP, I don't think you're as old as you think you are.

What do you think about the Hetalia movie where it's half original story and half clips from the show?

Not OP, but this just awoke some kind of fever memory of being wasted and watching that movie with an ex for some reason. I felt like I was in some sort of Hetalia purgatory

I'm getting old, and I remember anime clips movies from the 80s.

Yup, I can't think of a single anime movie that recaps literally what happens in canon. Sure there are OVA's, spinoffs, and substories, but not a single one that exists as a general recap.
I imagine they're just a means to an end to get people more interesting in the original series, but it's a lazy choice nonetheless.

I find the Code Geass recap movies about a million times less offensive than the burning pile of dung that was Re;surrection.

Also, the irony in the fact that this secret is somehow related to Code Geass - which has been doing copypaste recaps for, uh, precisely 14 years now. Remember the recap episodes before ep 25 and then the recap movies ie. Suzaku of the Counterattack? Not to mention those picture dramas that are basically retellings. I swear they do it more often than most series lol.
