I totally get this, because as writers, we post publicly because we think others might enjoy the stories we enjoyed writing; if they don't, then why bother to post?

I also think there's an aspect of writing that's pure storytelling, and which looks for audience response.

Even I didn't want any response to my stories at all I just wouldn't even write them! They'd all just be in my head.

The idea that you have to "write for yourself or you don't actually like writing" is bullshit to me and is basically telling people to shut up about how they feel about their own creative pursuits.
