Yes, that can be discouraging. And I have, at times (many, many times), lacked the motivation for writing, but that's really down to me and not really anything to do with comments. And part of why I enjoy writing fic is due to the thought of others maybe liking it, but mostly I write because I like to write and even if it never gets posted (like the many, many different stories I've started that live on my hard drive), I still enjoyed the process. I write because I like to write, I post because I like the idea of others enjoying what I've written and the feedback. However, I generally only post completed works and don't post my WIPs, so that might make a difference.
