What is the most you have cried from a piece media?

Games/Movies/Shows whatever.

I’m a big ol’ crybaby, so it’s hard to pick. Coco was the last one that had me really ugly crying. It made me miss my grandma.

I went to Coco alone and cried, and then I convinced my dad to come and see it, and he cried, and when it came out on DVD I bought it and showed it to my mum and SHE cried. So I'd call that a success!

There are three movies that I have sobbed during. The Fall, Schindler's List, and Requiem For a Dream.

Fanfic is the thing that makes me cry most.

I think Make Whole What Has Been Smashed by gigantic, in which Sherlock experiences time backwards like Merlin, has made me cry the most. I have to be careful just going to get a link for it, because if I get sucked in I'll end up crying.

When it comes to original fiction, I try not to even think about The Road by Cormac McCarthy (sp?), because it'll fuck me right up. The Grapes Of Wrath really messed me up when I read it, too.

With songs, I think Basket by Dan Mangan has got me teary a few times.

The entire ending of FFXIV: Shadowbringers had me ugly crying for almost 20 minutes. It was just so good and so emotional and so satisfying but also so painful at the same time. THAT is how you conclude a narrative.

I'd been meh on the game after Stormblood, but Shadowbringers drew me right back in and got me hooked again and I love it.

Ah yes, let's cry over the asshole who uses literal Nazi rhetoric to justify genocide just because we're not ~as good~ as the people he knew because their only real objective difference was mana pool and long lives.

Sorry, fandom has made me sick of Emet-Selch worship because I'm a minority from the south so I deal with similar rhetoric all my life. So sad, he lost people, but the genocide sure doesn't make me sympathetic at all.

nayrt

Not everyone is you, and crying over a terrible fictional person is never the same as crying over a real person like them. This comment as a response is horribly inappropriate and self-centered.

Nah, I'm just sick of people who woobify him, which happens way too often. Emmy-oo is the Loki of FFXIV. He's not even that interesting!

Yes, because fictional characters who are presented by the story as being both worthy of pity and also very much in the wrong are exactly the same thing as real people.

Didn't you learn the difference between fiction and reality in third grade or so?

Re: What is the most you have cried from a piece media?

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I did, but I have seen one too many people agreeing with his rhetoric to give a fuck anymore. There are people who legit think that Hydaelyn is evil for NOT wanting to genocide a number of people because a few sad assholes refused to let go and admit they did this to themselves. Don't you know the hot grandpa is SAD? We should JOIN HIM and genocide everyone! We're not objectively better, after all!

Except at this point in the story we have zero reason to believe that Hydaelyn is entirely good or altruistic either. Hydaelyn is a Primal. Primals are by their nature self-interested. What's to say that she wouldn't want to do the same thing if it would ultimately serve her purposes?

I cried a lot after FLCL: Alternative. Kana not being able to reconcile with Pets just brought back a lot of memories of when my best friend and I had a falling out and stopped being friends.

"Bill Moves On" from NewsRadio

I always end up ugly-crying.
segnung: Nastassja Kinski as Jane Henderson in the Wim Wenders masterpiece Paris Texas. ([film: PT] All she dreamed about)

I can't watch that episode anymore, it's too painful.

I'll never forget how the ending of Seven Little Australians destroyed me.
(for non-Australians, imagine if Little Women ended with Beth's death)
(and that Beth was like eleven)
segnung: Rey and Ben's fates are as intertwined as their tongues ([film: TROS; OTP] One soul to another)

I use fiction as a way to let myself cry so I've cried a lot over books and films. Two that made me terribly upset and crying for a long time after are Boys Don't Cry and Die kommenden Tage. The former I watched as a teen dealing with my own sexuality and wanting them so badly to get their happy ending (even though I knew they wouldn't) and the latter being so frustrating with mostly obnoxious characters that the better ones who didn't deserve to suffer ended up suffering the most due to actions by said obnoxious characters.

As for books, Endless Love by Scott Spencer (not at all like the shitty film adaptations it keeps getting) was devastating because the lead was so mentally and emotionally broken at the end and it was clear he was never going to recover.

I cried so much listening to the Hamilton soundtrack. I know its cool to be cringey of it now but that musical still makes me tear up.

Moana. I almost never cry beyond blinking a few tears that could be from yawning from sitting too long, but Moana had me bawling so hard during the grandma scene that I had a headache for the rest of the night.

Probably Arvo Part's Spiegel im Spiegel or Fratres. They're like the god-mode cheat for cinematic soundtrack people when it comes to getting me to cry. There are other compositions that hit the same nerve like the Elgar Cello Concerto, but they're more high-key and not used quite as often.
