(Anonymous) 2020-05-30 04:01 am (UTC)(link)As a writer, I'm not gonna lie, it's nice to get comments (hell, a kudo or two!), but for myself, I write because I like whatever it is I'm working on (even if it feels like a voice yelling into the void), I will agree it's nice to get recognition. It's not my personal motivator, but people are different.
As a reader, I'll comment if I enjoyed it and I see the writer is just starting (to encourage them). Otherwise, I only comment if I was really hooked. Especially if it's a fic that hasn't updated in a while. And I'm one of those two comment readers -- you'll get a comment when I first read (up to your last update) and one comment once it's done. That's it, unless something wild goes down between then, that I really feel the need to writer "WHOA!".
