There was one last week, complaining, for example, that someone read through an entire series in a day, dropping kudos on every entry, and they were Just So Rude to not leave a comment at the end.

I love comments, they improve my day, but lord help me that writer needs to get some sun and fresh air.

That is completely different than what you said in the original post. You said "not commenting on every single chapter with a long essay length comment".
And now you explain how someone was mad because someone "read through an entire series in a day" leaving kudos but not a single comment.

Those are two completely different things. I wouldn't agree with people getting mad that readers aren't "commenting on every single chapter with a long essay length comment." But literally NO ONE says that.

I totally agree with that person who got mad that someone read so many fics and didn't comment ONCE (unfortunately, I didn't see that discussion, but I would have agreed with them). What this person wanted (as far as I can tell from you summing it up) wasn't a comment on every single chapter. It was one comment at the end of the series. Maybe even one comment on every fic of the series (which might be 20+ chapters each for all we know). No one said anything about one essay-long comment on each chapter!

NAYRT: Get mad, really? A *lot* of people find commenting to be a high emotional risk for not a lot of gain. And sorry, AO3 isn't set up to be a writer's group. It's a story-publishing platform, and the ratio of more than 90% lurkers is part of how the system works.

"high emotional risk"? What kind of special snowflakes are these? That's nothing but an excuse. If it is really true: they should go find a therapist. And it doesn't have to be a "writer's group". Interaction is, however, encouraged. Why would people be posting if no one commented? Answer: They wouldn't. Writers who only get few comments do stop posting their fics. (I know that from experience.) Lurkers hurt everyone.

What kind of special snowflakes are these?

The kinds who don't want to respond to a literary mediocrity like yourself, who is liable to respond in this manner. Thanks for proving my point.

hahaha someone's getting butthurt. I wouldn't expect you to be able to argue using real arguments instead of resorting to name calling.

I'm responsible for using electronic communication to massage the feels of dozens of clients, co-workers, and family. I'm not paid enough to deal with tacitly homophobic responses just because you wrote a story.

And still you keep replying here without saying anything of substance.

DA attitudes like yours are why I only comment on fic that's actually good

(Anonymous) 2020-05-30 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
NA - You really are a nasty little immature cretin, aren't you? I certainly would never feel bad that I hadn't comment on your fic, anon. With an attitude like yours, I wouldn't want to encourage you.
