SA. I can tell you that in my 20 years of fandom, it's only been relatively recently that there even was such a thing as a kudos button anywhere on the screen. So, let's not pretend that longevity provides any sort of strength to an argument here.

Despite your oh so many years in fandom, it apparently has done nothing for your reading comprehension. Nowhere in my comment did I say I thought people were lying. However, many other people in this very thread have pointed out that "kudos" can mean different things to different people. And for me (and others), one of those meanings is "Oh shit! I'm reading this on my tablet in bed at a weird angle and meant to hit next chapter/edit bookmark."

And yeah. If people can't be bothered to leave a comment as simple and inarticulate as "I liked this fic!" then I'm going to find other fandoms where my contributions are actually appreciated. Simple as that. Sorry if that makes me ~resentful.

I hate the "but it takes so long to comment!"...I can assure you it takes me longer to write. I'm not resentful of people who just don't comment but I am resentful of the fact every time I express an opinion on wanting feedback because there seems to be an attitude of just consuming something and not interacting with people (and to me that's part of what makes fandom, fandom...we're engaging) is me being over the top and entitled. How is it not entitled to benefit from other people's hard work and then whenever someone is like "i'd sort of appreciate a few comments...if anyone feels like they want to maybe..." with long winded essays about how YOU SHOULD WRITE BECAUSE YOU LIKE WRITING IF YOU WRITE JUST TO GET COMMENTS YOU DON'T ACTUALLY LIKE WRITING.

I get both sides TBH. Just the whole debate is exhausting because people just assume you're either on one extreme or the other.
