Tom Cruise wasn't built enough for her. She wanted a manly man with piercing eyes. When I first read about that in an interview with her (ages ago), I was surprised. I had read three of the books by then, and Lestat really didn't read like Rutger Hauer to me.

Yeah, if Rutger Hauer was who she had in mind, I can see why Cruise didn't fill the bill.

(I suspect she'd have been even more dissatisfied with Bowie, then.)
