I understand you OP.
I always had my problems with the whole kudos system. It doesn't really indicate that someone read your story. (Sure you can write a comment like that too).
Personally I love reading what parts the reader liked or didn't liked. Also some suggestions and assumptions of what could happen later. I rarely read ffs these days but when I read something I always leave a comment.

I even wrote under the stories that I would like to read what was good and what could have been better, so I could improve my writing/story building. But as it turned out, even critics where rare.

Personally I felt a bit alone. I wanted to write a story people enjoy reading but without feedback I was at a loss. Sure, I went on with the plot I had in my head but after a while I lost my motivation for some stories.
