Ooh, I had this doll! I got her for Christmas one year and she and my Selena doll were my favorite toys for years. I agree that the dolls was very cheap though. I wasn't a careful kid, so my doll got a little trashed, but my sister got the Sailor Venus one and even though she treated all her dolls like they were made of glass, the hair frizzed if you looked at it wrong and the clothes were worse than dollar store Barbie clothes.

Those later irwin dolls can look quite cute when repainted to match the outers they released right after, but I totally get just wanting them to look nice from the get-go. Not everyone wants to customize dolls or pay someone else to do it for them. I had the weird early long and flat faced ones when I was young, and while I played with them all the same, there's basically no saving them, lol.

I'm sure I've seen better Sailor Moon dolls than that for sale here in the UK back in the 00s.

I just want a nice Sailor Moon doll that’s affordable and doesn’t look derpy. I almost got the Pullip one when it came out, but it was way out of my price range. I lowkey want the Universal Studios Japan one, but it’s pricy on the secondary market and I’m not sure it’s worth it.

Are you my doll blog friend? Because they made a post about how much they wanted a Sailor Moon doll as a kid only to get some as an adult and realize the faces on them aren't that great

Naoko Takeuchi talks about seeing Sailor Moon dolls in the US in one of the manga volumes. Iirc, she was really amazed and happy to see them being sold in US stores, but she also comments something like: “Sailor V’s lips are really low!? She looks like an old lady!” and drew “what they looked like” and “how it should be”.

oh my god blast from the past! my sister and i grew up w these dolls. i don't remember them looking like... this. but i am sure my goofy little kid mind just had not yet refined my aesthetic tastes~ lmao

Ayye!! I bought a set of these from a garage sale a summer or two ago! I love them, but the are extremely ugly I have to say!
