I've wondered the same thing about Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Plus if I didn't know better I'd swear all those cartoons that revolve around predators not eating (Roadrunner, every cat and mouse cartoon EVER, etc.) were written by the sort of vegetarian who tries to insist that everybody else should be.

I had a vegan neighbour who only brought up her veganism when we were going out to eat together. Not in the "you should be vegan too" way, but in the "I'm sorry, is there any vegan option in the menu? If not, water is ok" way. She was very nice and a very rare vegan.

Those are the ones that people think about because most vegetarians you'll never even know.

Anecdotally, the vast majority of people I know who have dietary restrictions are really chill about it. They really only tell people if they're eating together and will tell you about it only if you ask.

Those cartoons are just about rooting for the underdog. Much simpler and more common than Big Vegetarian making cartoons.

how can those mice be the underdog if they ALWAYS win?

(Anonymous) 2020-06-03 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Because in real life they ALWAYS lose?

tell that to the dirty little fucker in my apartment, who's there because some of my neighbors are pigs who throw their garbage where they're not supposed to.

Yes, for Texas Chainsaw Massacre (https://slate.com/culture/2013/07/texas-chain-saw-massacre-and-vegetarianism-animal-rights-themes-in-the-original-movie-analyzed.html).

In a rare interview in which he was asked point-blank whether the movie was “vegetarian propaganda,” Hooper said:

I gave up meat while making that film. In a way I thought the heart of the film was about meat; it’s about the chain of life and killing sentient beings, and it has cannibalism in it, although you have to come to that conclusion by yourself because it’s only implied. Guillermo Del Toro also gave up eating meat after seeing that movie.

Thank you for settling the doubt on this, anon!
