I haven't seen this one but from my limited experience with Asian dramas so far, female roles seem kind of dire? Even the heroines who we're supposed to like are really...I don't know. There's clearly a cultural gap at work here, but the types of female characters don't have a lot of variety and they tend to hit certain notes I don't like - the girl child cutesy type, for example. I absolutely hate it when grown women speak in artificially high pitched voices, stamp their feet and pout at the hero, etc. Even feisty heroines who might initially present as non traditional end up seeming rather submissive once the romance plot is underway. Weirdly so.

I don't watch Korean dramas, but as far as I can tell, female roles in the Japanese drama scene are alright. I don't watch or pay attention to romance dramas though. Lately, if the main characters are too male-dominated, random superior/boss characters have also started being female, which is a trend I've been happy to see because it gives older actresses more roles. Younger actresses are also getting trained for action scenes more which is kinda cool, although action scenes in J-dramas are usually rather bad.

That said, the one thing I think Japan really has a problem with is accepting married women with careers, so a lot of the successful ladies in these dramas seem to stay single. Not all of them, but enough that it irks me. Oh well, slow but steady progress, I guess...

I think that's one of the things that bugs me about the Chinese dramas I've seen so far. Female characters might carry swords, but they rarely have any significant fight scenes - even when their character is supposedly a decent martial artist. Like... it'll be written into the plot that they're good fighters, have this power, this pretty sword and... nothing. Every single male character who wields a sword will get a fight scene, but not the female character. Really disappointing.

That's definitely part of why I don't watch action Asian dramas. To be fair, it's not really that much better in the International scene until very recently.

Out of recent memory, for female led J-dramas, there's a forensics expert, some data analyst type worker, medical doctors, lots of police officers, secret spy that tries to act like just a housewife, office ladies of all sorts...idk, there's a lot of different careers really. Unlike Chinese dramas, J-dramas do tend to be more based in real life, though. So if you're into the historic fantasy settings, probably not for you.
