I personally am not Jewish, and the matter is complicated, but god I can imagine the shit storm that might hypothetically arise if a Jewish author made a Jewish character who was bad. I'd imagine it going down in the same vein as one of Dave Chapell's old standup routines that he had to retire because racist people would use it to justify their own racism, so I can sympathize if the author doesn't want to deal with that sort of problem right away.

I sat here for almost an hour trying to think of how to word a response and it's like you organized my thoughts for me, thanks

Mh, from the secret, it seems to me that the author writes a huge ensemble of characters, and I do see how it could be somewhat annoying if everybody can be good, evil, ambiguous, but this one group is only ever good. I understand why Jewish characters, who for centuries have been written pushed into the role of the villain in stories, folklore, and persecuted on the basis of these prejudices throughout history, being only good is more groundbreaking than having (one or more of) them be ambiguous or evil. But as a reader, one particular group only ever being good sounds... bland. It makes that group boring compared to the other groups which show more variety.

So I think I understand what OP means, and I definitely understand why this is a secret.

Really? I've read a lot fo Jewish literature and there's plenty of all kinds of Jews there, and nobody cares, because that's normal. Or are we taking about the YA American scene only?
