Because sadly, some authors still cling to those old-fashioned ideas of femininity. :/ I mean, it's their right to write however they want, but it'd be nice if some of them would take cues from authors who write more well-rounded females. Or at least realize women can be traditionally feminine but still have personalities outside being the hero's treasure.

That said, though, you shouldn't let books make you worry about love in the real world. Fiction's fiction for a reason. :)

101./ I think the thing that annoys me even more than what the OP was describing is how certain authors Anne McCaffrey I'm looking at you will write very strong females and then turn them into utterly weak wooblies for a man who hasn't done half the crap they've gone through, this transformation orchestrated by the most retarded things.

Dear Ms McCaffrey, Sex induced by the lust caused from the mating flight of a creature you are mentally bonded to is NOT going to suddenly be "I love you and need you and will submit to you because you have a cock." So why is it that the only female characters I can think of who DON'T do that are either complete narcissistic bitches who only care about their own selfish desires, or women who will never become leaders. Of course, you also fail at gay men, so you can just shut the fuck down at any moment, you bigoted bastard.

Ah, the old Chickification clause with a dash of Faux Action girl? :/ That bothers me too...actually it bothers me when ANY character is set up to be strong, smart, clever, etc. and ends up being a pathetic doormat or useless moron because the plot "needs it". But I hate the Designated Victim chestnut as a whole unless there's a damn good reason it's gotta be that way.
