personally, I think it's to just keep track of hits to their pages. it's not like they can track back each and every IP address to a comment to see who's trolling.

it's a program that tracks hits on a site complete with IP addresses listed.

Maybe they just want it so they can get rid of trolls and spammers. Personally, I'm not that worried.

It's basically a little bug that records the IP addresses of people who load the pixel. I use it on my journal to see who's been looking at my posts/profile. You can block it from recording your hits this way.

If you don't know already that everything you do on the internet is being tracked by SOMEONE, and a community like this is a REALLY REALLY fucking stupid place to post anything illegal or threatening or that might actually put you somehow at real risk if it was a known secret, you are a dumbass.

Also, it's not that hard to mask your IP address.
