110 - OMG. me too, I loved 9 and Rose.. because he was all dark, and she brought him to life. Their interactions were amazing. Once 10 showed up, he was too pretty and made googly eyes at Rose. 9 and Rose was more romantic to me because it just seemed more complicated and more "starcrossed". idk. I really adored Chris E and his spin on the role though.

I agree, but I wonder how people would perceive that relationship if Nine had more than one series? What ruined Ten/Rose for me was the fact that she got stuck in an alternate dimension and his (reasonably justified) moping overshadowed his other relationships.

see 10/Rose was ruined for me almost immediately. It was like a flip was switched, and the attraction because too sexual instead of just the odd hint of romance with 9 but her infatuation with the man himself and his appreciation and rebirth over a simple girl.

With 10, he like immediately was just 'here I am to save you, Rose! I have a sword for the Christmas special and I'm very silly!' With 9 it was just more untethered anger and protectiveness that showy gallantry which is what I came to expect from Tennant.

I also preferred Chris E in general though.. which is probably why I love 9/Rose but not 10/Rose.

This is exactly why I prefer 9/Rose to 10/Rose. Everything about 9 with Rose was ... I don't know ... it felt new. Like she was helping him see things for the first time. And I loved loved loved the way that you could just SEE how much 9 adored this girl, even though he played it very close to the chest.

I didn't really GET much of that from 10. He was silly and outlandish, and yeah, he cared about Rose, obviously, but it wasn't in the same sort of way. 9 was much more understated, there was just so much going on with him internally, and he wasn't a showy kinda guy. With 10, everything was out on the table ... and the relationship just really lost something there.

Not gonna lie, Doomsday DEVASTATED me. But I find Parting of the Ways infinitely more heartbreaking.

I agree a million times over. I also hated that like 6 episodes into 10's tenure (lolol), he had an episode where he had a sort of relationship with another woman (Madame Du Pompadour)

To me, 9 wouldn't do that because he wasn't looking for sexual attraction/a relationship. Rose surprised him in more ways than one.

Ten has had like a million people shipped with him. He's like the manwhore of the Whoniverse, and I really hate that.

Oh, man, when I first saw "The Girl in the Fireplace" ... I was pissed. Like, super-mega-pissed. Basically, I was just screaming that 9 wouldn't DO that, no matter what, and I was just still really upset over him not being there any more. It took me a long time to even really accept 10. Like Rose said in "The Christmas Invasion" -- he wasn't the "proper Doctor" to me. I was being stubborn and fanbratty, yes. And "The Girl in the Fireplace" didn't do anything to endear 10 to me.

And see, that's the thing that I LOVE about 9/Rose. You're never quite sure just where they are with each other ... you know he absolutely adores her and would do just about anything for her, and it's quite clear that she feels the same way ... but there's also times when they seem more like best friends, and other times when he's more of a mentor/father figure to her ... there are just SO MANY FACETS of 9/Rose, and that's what makes it so damn GOOD. With 10/Rose, it was just very quickly all about the "attraction" or whatever ... all other pieces of the relationship seemed to fall by the wayside, and that's why I think it was severely lacking in comparison.

I mean, I really just preferred Chris E's portrayal of the Doctor to David Tennant's ... but even without taking that into account ... the relationship was just far more intricate and complex when he was 9. There was MORE to it. It wasn't purely topical, it was really deep, and really really kind of meant-to-be in a very special kind of way.

I talk WAY TOO MUCH about this pairing. I'm sorry! LOL

lol it's ok. I feel pretty much exactly the same. Season 1 of new Who was probably the best overall as well imo =)
