OP here, I agree with this! FMA doesn't exactly focus on the loss of body parts either, but everything still feel like it mattered, every loss is felt and counted. If we're talking about how I think bodily mutulation (and really plot handling in general) should be dealt with in shounen, I think FMA is a good example of balance.
