Oh hey, another Legend of the White Snake secret! :D

I think if the show wanted to do theme of "oh look at how these humans constantly hate Bai Suzhen unfairly just because she is actually a snake", especially in the overdone way I didn't like from the show, then maybe this story would've been better as a movie, or as a shorter series. As it is, I just found it frustrating that people kept abandoning Bai and Xiao Qing.

In b4 "it's accurate to the original legend!" The original legend continuously changed over time to fit the needs of the changing cultural times. It could change once again for the sake of this show's retelling.

I feel like some conflict is fair, I just wish it wasn't written in such a stupid way where people would have to be ungrateful, backstabbing idiots not to cut them more slack.

I thought it was really shitty of Hanwen's family (his sister specifically) to keep doubting Bai. Like jesus, what did Bai ever do to you? Why would you believe Ruyi, who's established she's a spoiled, treacherous bitch? And all the patients who were healed by Bai and Hanwen... WTF? You think an evil snake demon is going to spend her days healing sick people for free?? And HOW does Hanwen not tell his sister to shut her fucking face?

I don't mind conflict and doubt, but come on, come up with a better scenario than that.

I think this mostly comes down to the writers having bad cultural touchstones, and possibly being written according to a committee. This story could've used really some editing...

This has been an issue in several other Chinese dramas I've watched...they sort of drag on with several plots that are sort of stitched together messily, like 2-3 different movies squished together.
