Absolutely this. LXC was so emotionally torn up by the scale of JGY's deception by the end that it throws him into a place of deep despair and self-doubt. How does he bear any blame? LXC was the most duped of any of them and it was all down to his fundamental goodness and tendency to see good in people.

Like the anon above said, JGY is a master manipulator and what's more than that he genuinely cared for LXC in his own deeply messed up way. I think right up until the temple LXC was looking for a way to save him. The scale of JGY's madness and evil doings only really becomes clear in the temple and it breaks him.
