It's not clear what you actually have in mind as a bad feminist role model!

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Amanda Palmer, maybe?

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I know this is a comment secret, and it was left in the GC either the day of the "Brie Larson is a bad feminist because she's had cosmetic alterations to her face" secret, or the day after that secret.

I don't know if it was made with Brie Larson in mind, though.

Any of the famous singers who wear revealing outfits in evety single one of their videos?

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
All of the Kardashians.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Seconding the anon above. This is so vague it could mean anything. Are we talking characters (often written by men) or real living women?

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do we expect all women to be good role models? Sure, we should all strive to be our best selves, but we sure don't put that kind of pressure on men.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

I'm not trying to be a role model, I'm just trying to live. I'm sure lots of famous women feel the same way. can't they just be a good actress or good singer or good writer or whatever it is they do without the endless "moral" scrutiny?

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe OP meant certain women who are considered good feminist role models?

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Not OP but then maybe we should be putting that kind of pressure on men to be good role models. No sense letting everyone off the hook. ;)

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm curious to know who you had in mind when you made this secret, OP.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Do it anyway. It's not like anybody knows what you're talking about.

is this re: lana "i'm not not a feminist" del rey bc that's what i thought of first lmao

(tbf i think she had some good points but holy shit was that messy and half her spiel was unnecessary and detracted from her real argument)

Well this is definitely true with fictional women. With irl women tho I usually see people ready to jump on a chance to drag a woman for whatever cause, but of course it depends on the popularity of said person.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, go drag some men for being bad feminist role models first. Women in the public eye get so much scrutiny and negativity that if they're not saying "I am a feminist role model" I don't give a shit anymore.

(In the case of fictional women, depends what the creator is saying.)

How is this fandom? There is literally no reference to fandom whatsover.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
It is. But feel free to submit your own "proper" fandom secrets here, we can always use more secrets:

i've always wondered, where do we go to get comments turned into secrets?

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Usually some anon will make a thread in the General Comments section on page 2 asking for comments that people want to be turned into secrets, maybe once a week or so, and you can respond there and people will make them if they want to.

There's been plenty of secrets that don't relate to fandom at all for a while. There's always someone ready to claim fandomsecrets is dying if someone points that out and so it doesn't matter as long as we keep getting secrets. Sometimes the secrets we get aren't even secrets but hey.

A fictional woman? A real woman?

Regardless, I don't think its useful to have actual role models for feminism, that simply doesn't make sense with feminism as a movement, like why do you want that and what do you think it entails?

I just want more characters to have internal lives, agency, and whose stories interrogate our oppressive system. I'd like to start there.

I'd also like better understanding of what certain characters do for feminism. Amy in Gone Girl isn't whatever type of feminist people want her to be. Her story interrogates soft power, how it operates and how much it is useless against actual hard power.
