I didn't like the Red John story arc either. It felt very formulaic, and it dragged on and on ...

I tried to get into this show, I found the main character too obnoxious and irritating. The idea of the plot was good, but I only made it through two seasons (not sure why I even watched that long when I spent the entire time wanting to punch Jane in the face).

Agreed. The Red John stuff got incredibly tedious very quickly.

I feel the same about the X-Files.

I enjoyed the Monster of the Week shows more than the Mulder's raison d'etre alien arc and as the show went on, that became more and more true.

Hard same. It felt like they wrote themselves into a Gilligan's Island with that bc Red John was the whole point of Jane being with the CBI, but I hated every RJ episode. I just wanted him to work with the team on cases. The more convoluted the conspiracy became, the less interested I became in the show.

The Mentalist and that whole Red John thing is what finally killed my tolerance for serial killer storylines.

Which is to say, me too, OP, me too. I liked the team, I liked the other stories, but the Red John thing should have been resolved and the show should have refocused. tsk
