Maybe. For at-risk people yes, and I think you can request to be tested. My family suggested getting tested in a week or if I spiked a fever.

In terms of preventing spread, you need to know, and people who may have been in close contact with you need to know.

If you're in an area where testing isn't available due to demand, you need to assume that it is COVID and isolate yourself accordingly for 14 days minimum and seek medical advice. Your close contacts should also be isolating for 14 days minimum. That means no going outside even for exercise, get essentials through contactless delivery, etc.

The wait and see approach if you are still leaving your home and have been in contact with other people/will come into contact with other people is not responsible. This virus is very very contagious even under the best circumstances.

This information should be easily found on government websites if you're confused, unless you live in a country that doesn't believe in science I guess.
