139. I have no opinion on this case (and this comment is not really directed at the OP), but I'm so sick of hearing over-zealous JKR devotees bitch and pretend to know something about copyright law and the legal system. Most are just talking out their asses.

How about the judge who does know something about copyright law and the legal system, and who said RDR/SVA should not get to publish their infringing book? Sounds to me like you're the one talking out your ass.

Like I said, I have no opinion on the case. I do not pretend to be an expert about anything involving the case or the legal system. I am not saying no one has a valid and researched position on it. All I'm saying is that a large group of fans irritated the crap out of me by spouting BS about it for months on end.

Different anon (obviously): Yes, this. The judge trying the case, at one point, had a talk with both parties involved and told them that honestly, it could go either way -- that it was a very gray area and that no matter which way he ruled, he expected the other party would appeal, and he encouraged them to settle out of court. If the judge, who has the education and years of experience, has this much trouble ruling, I really don't think it's as simple as the JKR fangirls/boys like to think it is. The opinion of the Stanford Law School is nothing to sneeze at either.

Sorry for rambling at you, but as you can see, I'm sick to death of the JKR fans pretending to be legal experts, too.
