Buffy was doing it for all the wrong reasons

what do you mean? Buffy sacrificed herself because she had multiple prophetic dreams and a vision quest that informed her that it was her destiny to die in Dawn's place. and she never felt right about killing Dawn because it was the wrong thing to do. it was her destiny to die in that exact way, at that exact time.

I guess it's all about how you interpreted it. That season to me showed how Buffy runs away from making choices: why doesn't she kill Spike, lose Riley or admit she wasn't treating him well, Ben or Dawn -- two creatures both fucked over by monks exiling Glory. Buffy hates choices, she simply can't deal with them. It struck me more that she wanted her own pain to be over and went for this direction than a "true" decision (well you know, high stress situation and all lawls). And it's also my picking at the writer's logical holes for it even working. Her vision quest informed her that 'death was her gift,' and her destiny was how she chose to use it, not that her decision was already set in stone. She could deal death or use her own, and she opted for the latter to save the girl she loved. But also all that's happened to her was pushing her to make a decision that, again, makes me squint at the writer's logic and go WTF. Again, we interpreted the angles leading to the finale differently.
