For me, the problem is not so much being hot, but not being magnetic and charismatic - for both of them but especially Remus.

Also, as we all know, they should be significantly younger.

Honestly this is the big problem for me with David Thewlis as Remus. He's just not an interesting presence to me. I prefer my Lupin fancasts to be very odd looking and not stereotypically attractive, but with some intensity behind it.

Also, it really annoys me that Rowling didn't reveal he was Welsh until super recently.

(Goldman is reasonably compelling to watch in the third film, but falls apart after that)

I agree on Remus, but Sirius? Sirius who spent 12 years In Azkaban? Plus, Gary Oldman is kind of hot in that role to me. He's too old for the part, but I wouldn't say I think the role needs someone hotter, just someone more age appropriate.

I can see there is an argument for both appearing older, Sirius for his hellish prison experience and Remus for his years as an underfed, uncared for, unemployed werewolf.but yeah, the actors are probably older thN they should be, mind you Snape too.
And Lupin in the movies, overlaid with head cannon has made me appreciate Thewlis much more!

The characters I have in my head are always hotter than what they actually look like in show. Sometimes when rewatching old shows, all I can think about is how I picture them so differently in my head.

I very much want them to be hotter, but sadly the movie actors are stuck in my head. And neither is very attractive to me, so I mostly don't really go for fic where their sexual relationships are central because it's not appealing to me. If I could imagine, like, Richard Madden and Daniel Sharman in those roles, I would.

They were teenagers alongside Harry's dad. That makes them, what? 34? 35? I feel like anime and celebrities have really skewed what our idea of 35 looks like, but it's not a hot young 20-something. As well, Remus regularly has trouble sleeping, is a giant tangle of anxiety and fears, etc. Sirius just got out of Azkaban.

Y'all just fell for the IDEA of these characters, so filled in "I like the idea of dating this man so therefore he's hot."

You said it yourself, they're supposed to be mid-thirties. The actors are mid-forties in the secret image, and they look it. Oldman and Thewlis were not even remotely passing for hard-aging thirty-four year olds.

I'm not in the HP fandom at all, and even I can tell that you're argument is ridiculous. People aren't complaining because they don't look like fucking CW "teenagers." People are complaining because they look at least ten years older than they're canonically supposed to.

That they've both been through Hell. Remus is a chronically ill man who has trouble sleeping. That makes you look like shit. Sirius has been through Azkaban, which is basically the Guantanamo of the wizarding world. They aren't going to look like fresh 30-somethings because that shit ages you very fast.

I agree. There was a similar secret a few weeks, and while I love Gary Oldman, I will agree with a comment made, which was that they should both look rather ragged (Remus doesn't feed his wolf and goes through torturous transformations every month ALL his life, and Sirius just got out of Azkaban dealing woth 12 years of dementors), but i still wanted them to be...hotter. Or something. idk. They just seemed so ordinary. Book Sirius was always dashing/debonair. And Remus shouldve been cute. Oh well.
