As a Jewish person, it always catches me off guard when Christian people talk about this movie. Like I completely get that Christianity came from Judaism so of course the book of Exodus is part of it. But it still surprises me off for some reason.

I also think of it, as I said in my comment below, as a totally Jewish Movie. Up there with the Rugrats' "let my babies go" for Jewish animated hallmarks of the 90s haha.

AYRT. Glad I'm not alone, haha. I have nothing against Christians loving it of course, I mean turnabout is fair play because I also grew up watching Veggie Tales and not particularly noticing that they were Christian because my mom only bought ones about old testament stories, lmao.

That's so odd to me. I remember having a discussion about a post where people were 'discovering' the Jewish history of Xianity, and some Xians were all amazed and some Jews were all 'that's Jewish!!' and I was like...but didn't they teach you that in church? I remember sitting in sunday school class learning about Passover and the teacher had brought in some (cheap and easy to find in rural Missouri) food that would stand in for 'traditional' food served at Passover.

And always talking about how Jesus was a Jew and his family were persecuted Jews....

It's so weird to me to think that there are Xians out there who *don't* know that chunks of the bible are from Jewish history/holy writing.

Fellow Jew here, totally thought of this as a Jewish movie.

Of course Stephen Shwartz and Ofra Haza have a lot to do with that impression too. (I always think of Hunchback of Notre Dame as being oddly Jewish in its music. Duh, Menken and Shwartz.)
