published novels do something similar where they quote something at the start of every chapter, and when fics do it that way at the beginning of the passage, i love them. you can really add something anticipatory when you know what you're doing


but i find relevancy of song block chosen and depth of successive passage is really the problem with songfic. most songs are too repetitive to work and merely have the fic repeat sentiments without any change of tone
