Try letting her finish her rant or complaints about your dad and asking her "that sounds [bad/frustrating/annoying/etc]. what are you going to do about it?" or "what happens when you talk to him about it?"

and start your convo about your day with "i had a really [shitty/sad/terrible/etc] thing happen and I just want to complain, can you just listen?" and see what she says.
