If I think about it I don't think I've liked most of the modern companions 100% of the time. I don't hate any of them but I don't really love them every episode either? I don't know what it is. I know in the classic series they could be a bit flat and basically around so The Doctor had people to teach or rescue but I'm not sure I've ever liked the 2005 revival's regular approach of "totally in awe of The Doctor almost like he's/she's a god" either. Even the non-romantic companions get a bit of that. But at least Donna and Bill didn't fancy their Doctors I guess.
