Sounds like OP is saying that any non-BNF fic writer obsessing about their fic traffic and comparing it to BNFs' fic traffic needs to cut it out and only worry about actual writing. Or that's what I got out of it.

OP was obsessing about BNFs and their writing and how many kudos they got, as opposed to how many OP was getting, and then OP compared the kudos-to-hits rates for OP's fic and realized that the rates are similar and so OP doesn't really need to be focused on BNFs (or jealous of them).

... find me someone who feels that 50 hits and 5 kudos are as good as 3000 hits and 300 kudos.

I DO I DO

...I write for very small fandoms and rarepairs. a 1/8 ratio or even 1/5 on a good work thrills me. I know my works will never get 3000 hits but the people who found it love it and that's good enough, I'm not delusional to think my rarepair slightly kinky fic in a small fandom is going to go juggernaut like some MCU faff.

Pretend there was a BNF in your small fandom whose fics got 10 or 20 times as many hits as yours -- but "the same ratio."

same here, i've got a gen-fic in a small as shit fandom, about an unpopular as fuck character and it's got about 100 hits and 20 kudos and i am 100% happy as hell with that. that's way more attention that i thought it'd get, it even has comments! only 2 but still!

like it's just the general rule of fandom: if it's not juggernaut fandom/ship content it's not likely to get much of an audience. it might not be fair, but it is the reality, so i'm happy with whatever i do get because it's still nice, even if it's a little.

I firmly agree. Ratio doesn't count for nothing to me, but I mainly care about numbers. I care about the numbers on their own ("Wow, this many people kudosed my fic!"), but I also care about how my numbers compare to the fandom standard.

OP here. I've been posting fanfic less than two months, so of course I don't expect to have as many hits as BNFs who've been posting for years.

Theory: kudos-to-hits is a measure of quality. If so, and I'm getting the same percentage of kudos to hits as a BNF, my work is of equivalent quality.

Geekery: It appears that kudos-to-hits is also affected by rating. Works rated explicit have poorer ratios. So it only makes sense to compare works with a similar rating.
