I'm getting the birth control implant on Wednesday and today I went and got the implant itself from the pharmacy (and I'll take it to the gyno and they'll stick it in me), and the box is ENORMOUS. Like HOLY SHIT. I get that it's mostly packaging but I don't want to open the box because I kind of don't want to know how much is packaging???
And I'm mad because I'm not even sexually active, I just have to get it because I have PCOS and if I'm not on BC I'm at a hugely increased risk of uterine cancer and I WAS on the pill but then I got a blood clot and WHY! CAN'T! MY! BODY! JUST! WORK!?!

The huge box is for the... inserting thingy? it scares a lot of ppl i know but the actual iud is small. good luck!

Oh thank fuck. Phew. Thanks!

you had a blood clot on the pill and are now getting a hormonal(?) implant?
What doctor prescribed that?

If it helps, the box is so large bc of the inserter thing. Similar to the tampons with an applicator.

maybe it's a copper one, not hormonal? are copper iud still a thing?

wait no, if it OP needs hormones for their PCOS and not actual birth control, it have to be hormonal indeed, my bad.

yeah, copper iuds are still a thing but they dont help with pcos.

op only said implant, not specifically iud. theres also a stick shaped thing that goes into the arm which is also hormonal. (long term BC)
Personally i wouldnt touch hormonal BC after a clot at all, but op must need it :/

op, is anti-coagulation parallel to the BC a possibility?

I don't actually know that much about it - I get flustered and forget to ask questions on the rare occasions I can actually get in to see the gyno (it's like a four month wait at minimum). But the gyno was pretty firm about my main concern being cancer :(
I'll try to ask more questions before they actually stick it in me.

it helps me to write down my questions beforehand on paper. that way i have sth in my hands to occupy them. and if you're too shy to voice it, you can just hand the paper over.

Good thinking! I will try to remember to do that - thank you, kind anon.
