Honestly, it's hard for me to see Emma and Knightley as a couple, too. It's not just the age gap, it's Emma's relative immaturity - even though she does some growing up over the course of the novel, she does so under Knightley's rather paternal admonition. To me he feels like more of a father/older brother figure and never really makes the transition into love interest.

oh my god... he DOES.

Thanks for turning my comment into a secret, OP!

HA, yes, well...he kind of does.

I really enjoyed this 'Emma', though; i thought it was funny and cute and gorgeous to look at and clever. And, you know - Bill Nighy.

Yikes, he DOES look like BJ

Lmao poor bastard

Maybe he's one of Boris' however many kids? Lol.

I see zero romantic chemistry in most versions. Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller are probably my favourite.

That guy is so offensively unattractive to me, I will never be able to watch this version. I love Mr. Knightley and this casting is an insult.

Well, that's definitely unfortunate for that actor.

Ew, now I can't, either!

Thank you for making me wheeze out loud with laughter, and now I can't unsee it either.
I've always thought the appeal of the relationship made a bit more sense when adapted to modern context, eg. Clueless or Emma Approved.
