(Anonymous) 2020-06-15 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)Anyway, most of the video games I play are visual novels and those all tend to have the characters premade. Having to create one's own character is fun though and I'd get why you'd prefer to play those types of games instead.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-15 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)I really like having that creative option as well, tbh. That was at least half the fun of playing. The character would often be the ideal version of me.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-15 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)[Also if there's any sort of roleplaying aspect to a game, it just does not work for me if I can't customise the character - I just can't get into the right headspace]

(Anonymous) 2020-06-15 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)Those tend to have pre-made characters. Ones where you puppet a vague hero through the motions always fall a little flat to me. Unless it's an online game, anyway.
I can let character creation slide for say ... Red Dead Online, but I'm glad we have proper pre-made characters in RDR2, for example.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-16 04:50 am (UTC)(link)I hate it when a game tries to slot your character in their world and pretend "I" (the character I finished creating 3 seconds ago) was always part of it when I know next to nothing. I don't feel immersed, I just feel lost.
