I hate how everyone on TV is either a closet gay or a closet bisexual to fans.

It's not that everyone is a closet gay or a closet bisexual--at least IMO--it's just that a person's sexuality isn't necessarily a fixed thing. Sleeping with women doesn't preclude sleeping with men and vice versa. Exploring that is one of the things that fanfic is for. *shrug*

I'm bi, and I ship het, m/m, and f/f pretty much equally. Granted I don't watch House and I have no idea what goes on in that fandom.

I also think that we (general we) tend to see the things we don't like as more prevelant than they necessarily are? Because they stick out in our mind. I know in my own fandoms I sometimes get caught up in "oh, why does everyone like this one pairing that I don't like?" and then I realize that there are plenty other people who don't like that pairing too.

I'm bi, too, and I seriously see people finding every excuse under the sun to make their favorite character's preference fly canonically, so they can ship their favorite ships. Why not just leave canon out of it when you ship? That's what I do.

Yeah, me too. I've only seen sanity in my first fandom. Too bad it's pretty dead now.

As annoying as the "lol everyone's gay" fics can be to read, when the rest of society stops assuming everyone is straight, maybe then I'll start being more bothered by a subset of fannish people assuming people are gay or bi. Because on it's own, the secret's "he dated a woman - he must be completely straight" is just as wrong as "he must be gay or bi", but when you put both statements within the context of a heteronormative culture, well, I do find the first a bit more offensive.

Yes, but my secret seems to bother people more because there's some offense to their sensibilities by saying that, brace yourself, a character IS straight rather than secretly gay/bi. Seriously, grow up and fucking deal.

And by the way, it says THE FANS rather than the PAIRING. Yes, the ship wars bug the fuck out of me. i'm not opposed to the pairing so much as the fact that the fan-ship wars get stupidly blown out of proportion (H/W was winning when W/A was still going [ish], but now H/Cud seems to be the top 'canon' ship). When someone pisses on a character just because it breaks up a pairing they happen to like (Amber, Cuddy, etc) it just annoys me. OMG, *gasp*, your pairing isn't canon, so you're going to hate on the character that proved it wrong. Jesus, immature much? That's like beating up the guy who snagged your crush before you got up the guts to ask them to the prom.

It's got nothing to do with being a slash fan, I just thought she was an insane bitch and not even a good one.

Everyone in society is NOT straight, 'cause I'm bisexual and stand as proof of that, but fandom has gone to the be point where being gay/bisexual is acceptable and being straight is unacceptable, and it REALLY bothers me.

Every sexuality is acceptable. Why is fandom demonizing straight people?

Then we must be in different fandoms*, bb, because honestly, I can't say I've seen stuff like that, while I have seen slashphobia and "eww, like another guy/gal? But s/he's straight!"

*Mine do not include any eastern fandoms, nor do they include House, which I've never seen. They do include old science fiction and comic fandoms where a good portion of the overall fanbase is male.

Yeah, we're from way different fandoms. The fandoms I'm in are predominantly female, pretty much have next to no males, and are overrun with people who think/act the way I stated in my previous comment.
