Even though Lumiere liked the feather duster?

Bisexual and open? Poly? Those feathers were really a "beard"? Plenty of ways to have it all.

That's how Disney works

I never realized I felt the same way until I read this secret.

Given Lumiere's canoodling with the feather duster and Cogsworth's 'flowers, chocolates, promises you don't intend to keep' line, I'd say it's more that Cogsworth is in love with Lumiere, and it's not going well for him.

I love this interpretation.

I always thought Lumiere was a playboy -- bi at most, but mostly his personality was just flirtatious -- there is no exception to whom.

Cogsworth was likely repressed and in love with Lumiere.

This is why I never trust anything that has a big run-up to 'oh THIS is gonna have a queer character featured in it' and then just given a background Mike Wazowski treatment before either fading back into irrelevancy or getting killed off for 'the drama' 5 minutes later.

Oh man big same, OP

(Anonymous) 2020-06-23 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
You're right and the wording of "Gaston's simp" made me lose it.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-23 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean... if a studio like Disney announces they're going to have a "gay character' ( and you don't immediately roll your eyes and assume the worst, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. No decent gay rep worth it's salt will parade itself around like that. It was all publicity and no substance.

That movie is so shit

(Anonymous) 2020-06-23 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved Wazowski's gay moments and I also think there are many hot possibilities for Cogsworth, Lumiere, and the feather duster. Not that I expect representation from Disney but only one queer character? Being queer on screen for less than a minute? In 20fucking17?

Same. As a child I absolutely felt there was sexual tension between them, but obviously neither the term "sexual tension" nor anything comparable were in my vocabulary, and I lacked the language to recognize what it was until many years later.
