:thunking: I haven't read the original story, but the tvtropes article on this story is all about how the tortured-child twist is seemingly made up by the narrator because they don't think the reader would believe in a real utopia, and the "real message" is about how you're a cynical loser for insisting that there must be a catch. Is this not actually a reasonable interpretation?
