Other comment reminded me that I've been meaning to post this

I'm a cis woman, but I can't watch anything involving trans people being bullied or going through trauma. I was repeatedly, knowingly misgendered by bullies as a kid because I wasn't traditionally feminine and developed late. Watching things like this brings that trauma up for me. I feel guilty about it because I'm not trans so it isn't like I went through what they went through and it feels like I might be being transphobic in avoiding this way. But I just can't handle being brought back to those childhood moments.

Let me just be explicitly clear that there is absolutely nothing wrong with not wanting to watch things that are traumatic for you whether you are cis or trans. And I'm sorry that happened to you.

That’s not transphobic, that’s just good mental hygiene. There’s absolutely no need to feel bad about it.

I'm trans, and I don't think that's transphobic to want to avoid. I went through a lot of bullying for looking gay and gender nonconforming before I even knew those were things someone could actually be, let alone knowing I could be trans, and it didn't feel any better before I identified that way. I'm sorry you experienced that.

I can see it maybe being transphobic if you avoided anything to do with trans people in fiction, or if you claimed you had the exact same experiences as a trans person and thus could speak for them IRL, but I don't see any of that here— what you said really sounds fine to me.

I have a brain like a sieve, so apologies in advance for maybe replying the same thing again whenever the secret goes up on f!s. I just wanted to say that there's nothing weird or offensive to me about what you said!
