I say this as someone who was raised in the mormon church and fuck if I have to hear you whine about being a liberal yet dear god being possibly discriminated for being mormon.

Imho, Meyer gets more shit for that she writes like shit than because of her religion. And you know, people obviously reads what she writes since Twilight is so damn popular. If no one reads your writing then it means no one will give a shit about your background.

If writing is your dream don't let anything get in your way, it's what YOU want to do. Letting other people crush your dreams is stupid.

Telling the people of a certain religion who aren't bigoted assholes that they're not really a part of that religion is a good way to make sure that religion stays in the Dark Ages.

Then, by your logic, I'm less of a Catholic for supporting homosexuality and not caring about the whole chastity deal fanclub, despite following more or less closely the rest of the Catholic beliefs...?

Well, the Church of LDS is sort of an anomaly compared to Christianity and the Catholic religions. LDS is "new", when you think about it, and many of their "beliefs" and doctrines have only been established within the last half century. So with LDS, you can't make as much of an argument that "belief A and B are outdated"...there's less picking and choosing with a modern establishment. And Mormons are typically categorized as being stricter with their beliefs, added to the fact that homosexuals in Catholic religions aren't punished, whereas with LDS they can be "excommunicated" to a certain degree, actual consequences.

So I'd say there's a big difference comparing what rules are followed in which religions.

Just because a religion is "newer" doesn't mean everyone on earth automatically agrees with its leaders no matter what. The church is still outdated because it's operating on a 1950s standpoint, not a 2008 one. For hell's sake, the church was outdated with its racist viewpoints, too, something I (and my family) are still quite upset about even though I wasn't even alive during that time.

No matter how "new" a church is, it can still be outdated.

I don't know why you think Mormons are stricter, aside from maybe living in Utah. Utah mormons are crazy mormons, just like many people see southern Baptists as the crazy ones.

I honestly am kind of offended by you telling me that I'm interpreting my faith wrong by disagreeing, and it's completely wrong. It is just the same as telling a Catholic the same thing. It's still what you believe.

However, if my priest were actively preaching against homosexuality (he's actually very open), I wouldn't be attending. I think it really depends on the situation.

In most cases, I don't think anyone follows all the doctrine of their relgion.

I honestly wasn't trying to whine about being oppressed. I just see people say "FUCK, that author is a MORMON" about Smeyer and it kind of depresses me.

And I'm a jack mormon, whatever, I don't care. The view of the church is wrong on this. I think I have a right to agree with some of the basic doctrines and still think others are frivolous, unnecessary, or, in this case, outright wrong.

Exactly. They're just using her religion as a reason to bash her because of her crappy books, and extending that bashing to every single person on the planet who happens to belong to the same denomination.

And seriously, a good number of the Mormons that I know personally have just the same beliefs you do. Two of them are *gasp* slash writers.
