Sheesh. It's not the entire fandom. There are communities just for Castiel, or Castiel and Dean, so dipping your toes in the fandom doesn't mean jumping into the deep end of Wincest. The SPN fandom does *not* hate people based on their pairing of choice, but so much of LJ seems to think we do.

I hope I didn't offend you, I didn't mean to, but I think we all know that SPN fandom has a bad reputation. I'm not even sure why, exactly. Every fandom has their batshit crazies.

I have joined a couple communities, thanks. :) Even on general coms, though, I haven't seen any of this Dean/Cas vs. Wincest wanking, that's what I was responding to in my comment - I've been pleasantly surprised by SPN fandom so far, but I wasn't ruling out the possibility that I'd just missed the wank somehow.

The SPN fandom does *not* hate people based on their pairing of choice, but so much of LJ seems to think we do.

Obviously there are some people who do. Maybe they give the rest of the fandom a bad name, I don't know, but I'm kind of confused as to whether or not there is a reason for SPN's bad reputation. The SPN friends I have are all fantastic so far. *shrug*

You didn't offend, no worries. It was more like "I have NO idea where this crazy is coming from!" frustration. I wish the SPN fandom didn't have this reputation because I really don't come across it. I'm huge into Sam/Dean but my flist is so mixed and I've never minded. Almost like there's a parallel universe in existence with another SPN fandom that's causing all this stuff.

Ah, I've felt the same way about Heroes. "They think *our* fandom is crazy?! What?!?" I'm just glad I bit the bullet and watched it, it's like SPN was waiting for me all my life, lol. And I know, I don't pick my friends based on whether or not they like the same pairings I do, they just have to seem unwanky and easy-going, and maybe that's the problem. OP just has to choose more tolerant friends. :/

I've been in fandom for about a year, and I've only witnessed one wank. But everywhere I turn, people are talking about the "crazy SPN fans," and it's just like -- how did we get this reputation?!

I was warned repeatedly when I waded into the fandom and I've yet to encounter anything but reasonable and talented people. Maybe I was just born under a good sign, hell if I know.
