am i the only one that doesn't understand how it's weird to ship real people? i mean it's not like you're ever going to meet them and it's like the same as shipping the actors characters or whatever. how is it weird or gross?

Nah, I pretty much agree. The only thing I feel sort of iffy about is RPing real people, even though I realize it's essentially the same as fic.

Unless you're in certain fandoms where you DO meet the people, uh, involved. It gets awkward meeting someone and thinking, "...I wrote fic about you shagging your band mates >.> "

That's the major reason I stopped writing RPS - because I met too many of the people involved, and it got weird!

Well, it doesn't bother me at all anymore, really, but sometimes when they're married to other people or something I feel a little guilty, like I want them to leave their wife/husband for this other person. (I don't, of course it just sometimes feels that way. :/)

I find tabloids and the paparazzi far more disturbing than RPF fic. The fic is just fans having fun and they're not making money from it.

Say the kid of one of the people you ship (actual or potential, doesn't matter) finds out from another kid in the playground that people are writing stories about their daddy fucking his best friend up the ass. Do you think that's a good thing?

Because that isn't even a possibility with fictional characters. Also, just because Pete Wentz thinks it's really funny doesn't mean that all people (or their families) do.

Real people have real feelings that can be hurt. No such problem with fictional characters.

And no, it's really, really not the same as shipping the actor's characters. Because, and this is simple really, the actors are not the characters and the way I know this is that when they are in a different show/movie/whatever, they have a different name, interact in a different way, have a different hairstyle, whatever. It's the part (and how it's interpreted) I love, not the person inhabiting it. If you can't see the difference, I can't make you. You keep enjoying your RPS, more power to your elbow, and I'll be over here pretending it doesn't exist.

I have no problem with you not liking RPS, just wanted to point out that tabloids and gossip columns make up things or speculate about celebrities all the time. The kids are far more likely to read about their parents' supposed drug-fueled sex romp with the maid than fic.
