The other commenter said almost everything I would have said, but I will add this:

It creeps the hell out of me that she actually conferred with her bishop and so forth to have those "approved." It seriously squicks me in ways very little else can. The concept of having to change my writing to align with what my leader thinks is Good And Right just sends shivers down my spine. Why would you do that? Where's your sense of pride and your self-respect? Urghhhh.

Hey, this is the anon from above! So, it was her bishop she talked to about getting her books this "Mormon seal of approval" I've been hearing about? I'm not...quite sure what to say about that. It wouldn't have occurred to me to ask my bishop, or anyone in the church, to edit the content of something I'd written. And besides that, is he really in the position to speak for everyone in the whole church concerning what's "ideal" anyway? That's so bizarre.

That's what I've been hearing spread around, although sadly I don't have any sources for you, either. I've just heard it mentioned by a lot of people and every time, I get this chill down my spine about how wrong it seems to me. I would guess perhaps a stake presidency might have been involved as well, but personally, I doubt any GAs were -- they're too busy to deal with a woman writing a vampire book.

Although on the topic of the crazier mormons, my aunt thought the books themselves were outright sacreligious -- my sister reads them, being a teenager, and when we saw my aunt on vacation she asked why my sister read such sacreligious stuff. Why? Because it has vampires in it. O ... kay? I don't get it. Some people are nuts.

Dude, I wouldn't consider a bishop of a particular ward a "higher-up authority" either. I mean, a cousin or two of mine have been bishops. They're just regular guys.

I don't really have a point here other than I agree with you, haha.
